    Foundation

The foundation, or base, is designed to prolong the life of the mattress by providing solid, stable support. It also elevates the mattress off the floor for better hygiene and a more attractive appearance. Sleep Experience™ offers five types of foundations: posture box, semi-flex, foam, coil spring and torsion grid base.

    Posture Box

A slatted wooden frame with a flat platform top, it’s usually covered in the same fabric as the mattress for a more cohesive look. A posture box is not a ‘box spring’, as it has no springs, and is therefore less effective for supporting the weight of the mattress.

    Semi-Flex Grid

Similar to the construction of the posture box, but with the addition of a rigid metal grid network affixed above the slats, this type of foundation is also very firm and absorbs little weight from the mattress.

    Foam

The most common form used in foam-on-foam bedding. Changing the compression and density of the foam will alter the firmness to your desired level of support for the mattress. This foundation is beneficial because it has a tendency to wear evenly.

    Coil Spring

This is the standard ‘box spring’, and it’s usually found matched to mid-priced bedding sets. The coil spring foundation uses a spring system similar to the basic mattress innerspring; however, due to the greater gauge of the coils and the larger size of the foundation, the foundation is much firmer than an innerspring mattress. Nonetheless, the coil spring foundation has the softest feel of any foundation available.

    Torsion Grid

Back to Top The best support for any mattress, though it is usually sold matched to premium bedding sets. The torsion grid foundation uses heavy gauge square coils that readily absorb the weight from the mattress above it. Additionally, the torsion grid foundation sits on thick hardwood frames with more cross slats than found in other foundations and, consequently, resists lateral sway much better. In short, the superior design of the torsion grid provides a more even support for the mattress thereby prolonging its life more effectively than any other base.

    Support System

Back to Top (Upload the support system icons) Your mattress, or in more technical terms, the support system, is the key component to a good night's rest. Sleep Experience™ offers five different types of support systems to help you make a more informed, sleep-savvy decision: Spring, Latex, Viscose, Adjustable and Hybrid. Ask your friendly Sleep Experience™ sales adviser for more details about how to select the mattress that’s best for you.

    Comfort

The comfort choice you make about your mattress refers to the upholstery found between the support system and the ticking. This area of the bed can give the plush, luxurious feeling to even the firmest of support systems. If your current bed has indentations or body impressions, it is most likely due to a breakdown or settling of the materials in the upholstery. When choosing the ideal comfort level of your Sleep Experience™ mattress, keep in mind these three key “industry” words:

    Firm

Some people prefer a solid, firm feeling under them while they sleep. Mattresses with this comfort level have less “give” when the sleeper turns in bed. Talk to your Sleep Experience™ sales advisor to determine if this is the best comfort level for your good night’s sleep. Also, keep in mind that if you sleep with a partner, some compromise may be required; so don’t be shy to hop on a few mattresses while you’re shopping!?

    Plush

Softer than the firm, but not as cushiony as the pillowtop, the plush mattress is a common choice in comfort among our Sleep Experience™ customers. Talk to your Sleep Experience™ sales advisor to determine if this is the ideal comfort level for your good night’s sleep. Also, keep in mind that if you sleep with a partner, some compromise may be required; so don’t be shy to hop on a few mattresses while you’re shopping!

    Pillowtop

Like the name suggests, the pillowtop comfort level provides the most softness with a very cushiony feel. People who prefer this comfort level talk about its luxurious, plush, soft “fall-into-bed” feeling. Though some people don’t like the feeling of such a soft surface underneath their bodies, you can rest easy knowing that beneath the soft surface no compromise for solid support can be found in many models. Talk to your Sleep Experience™ sales advisor to determine if this is the ideal comfort level for your good night’s sleep. Also, keep in mind that if you sleep with a partner, some compromise may be required; so don’t be shy to hop on a few mattresses while you’re shopping!

    Ticking

Finally, the ticking of the mattress, or the fabric on the surface, has an incredible importance to the sense of touch and vision when you are buying your mattress. Popular fabrics include cotton blends, polyester knits, chintzes, and damasks.
The type of fabric you choose can have an incredible impact on your mattress’ durability, stretch and breathability, so don't hesitate to ask your Sleep Experience™ sales advisor to help you find the mattress with the ideal ticking for you.
